Department Overview
The Pharmacy Technician Department is committed to training competent, ethical, and highly skilled middle-level healthcare professionals who support pharmacists in the delivery of quality pharmaceutical services. The department provides students with a solid foundation in pharmaceutical sciences, medication management, dispensing practices, patient care, and professional ethics, in line with the standards of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN).
The programme combines classroom instruction with practical laboratory sessions and supervised clinical and industrial attachments to equip students with the knowledge, technical skills, and professional competence required for effective practice in hospitals, community pharmacies, pharmaceutical industries, regulatory agencies, and other healthcare settings.
Our curriculum emphasizes the rational use of medicines, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmacy law and ethics, inventory management, health promotion, and the safe handling and storage of medicines. Students are also trained in communication skills, information technology, entrepreneurship, and research to prepare them for the evolving healthcare environment.
Upon successful completion of the programme and passing the National Pre-Certification Examination (NPCE), graduates become eligible for induction by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria and are equipped to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare system under the supervision of registered pharmacists.
The Pharmacy Technician Department at De Potter College of Health Technology is dedicated to producing graduates who demonstrate professionalism, integrity, compassion, and excellence in pharmaceutical care, thereby meeting the healthcare needs of Nigeria and beyond.
