The Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) programme at De Potter College of Health Technology is designed to produce competent frontline healthcare professionals equipped with the knowledge and practical skills required to deliver quality primary healthcare services. Students receive intensive training in disease prevention, maternal and child health, community diagnosis, health education, environmental sanitation, immunization, and health promotion through classroom instruction, laboratory practicals, and community-based clinical experience.

The programme is approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and accredited by the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN). Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates are eligible to sit for the Professional Qualifying Examination conducted by CHPRBN for registration and professional practice.

About Program

The HND Community Health programme focuses on developing highly skilled professionals capable of providing quality healthcare services while coordinating and supervising community health programmes. Students receive advanced training in community diagnosis, epidemiology, reproductive and maternal health, child survival strategies, environmental health, disease surveillance, health planning, and programme management.

The curriculum integrates classroom instruction with extensive clinical practice, community postings, research activities, and field experiences to strengthen students’ clinical competence, analytical abilities, leadership capacity, and decision-making skills. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based healthcare, effective communication, ethical practice, teamwork, and the efficient management of primary healthcare services.
